To attend his sister’s wedding, Lukas has to spend Christmas in the one place he knows he’s not welcome: his home town of Bergen, Norway. When he impulsively invites JJ—whom he’s known for 10 whole minutes—to join him, he inadvertently backs her in a corner: go to Bergen or abandon her Ph.D. program. Can these two find enough Christmas magic in Norway to get their lives back on track?
Jessica Johnson (JJ), a science teacher from Minnesota, encounters Lukas Strøm being dumped by another Jessica Johnson (Jessi) in a coffee shop. Lukas and Jessi were supposed to go to Norway for his sister’s wedding, but now Lukas is left without a partner. Lukas offers JJ the non-refundable ticket to Norway, paid under the name Jessica Johnson, and suggests she takes a holiday. JJ reluctantly agrees, planning to focus on her dissertation.
In Norway, Lukas helps JJ navigate the town and she becomes immersed in his family’s Christmas and wedding celebrations. JJ learns about Norwegian culture and traditions, feeling more confident and less alone. Lukas, a former downhill skier recovering from a leg injury, struggles with the pressure to compete again. JJ discovers a clue about her grandmother’s troll and, with the help of a carver, realizes that Coach Anders, Lukas’s coach, carved it.
As the wedding day approaches, JJ realizes she’s falling in love with Lukas. During Christmas celebrations, JJ enjoys Norwegian traditions, and Lukas is offered a coaching job by Anders. JJ, now considered part of Lukas’s family, decides to stay in Bergen, and Lukas is willing to chase her back to Minnesota if needed. Finally, they confess their love and seal it with a kiss along the picturesque boardwalk in Bergen.
